What are some classic love poems that show different emotions?
I need some examples of love poems that are cynical, others that are joyful, and others that are bitter/hateful. Classic, more well known poets would be preferred. If anyone has any ideas that would be great! Thanks
10 points to the best answer!
- 'When You Are Old' by W.B Yeats is a sad one
- 'Bright Star' by John Keats about the pain and joy of love
- 'Habitation' by Margaret Atwood. This one is more modern and has a kind of social commentary about marriage. Very interesting and different take on love.
- 'The Clod and the Pebble' by William Blake is kind of cynical, looking at the contradictory nature of love.
- 'Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day' by Shakespeare is kind of ironic and discusses depicting everlasting love in poetry.

To Hold by Li-Young Lee
So we’re dust. In the meantime, my wife and I
make the bed. Holding opposite edges of the sheet,
we raise it, billowing, then pull it tight,
measuring by eye as it falls into alignment
between us. We tug, fold, tuck. And if I’m lucky,
she’ll remember a recent dream and tell me.
One day we’ll lie down and not get up.
One day, all we guard will be surrendered.
Until then, we’ll go on learning to recognize
what we love, and what it takes
to tend what isn’t for our having.
So often, fear has led me
to abandon what I know I must relinquish
in time. But for the moment,
I’ll listen to her dream,
and she to mine, our mutual hearing calling
more and more detail into the light
of a joint and fragile keeping.
How to compare and contrast two love poems?
I need to compare and contrast the poems first love by john clare and ballad by anon.I have no idea where to start as i have never studied poetry before. My essay has to be between 200 - 500 words long. If anyone has any advice i would be really grateful.
First read them carefully. Figure out what you think the author is talking about. No one can tell you you are interpreting the poem wrong. I would start by comparing things like what kind of love is in the poem. Are they both woman/man love, parent to a child love. etc. Compare the way they describe thier beloved (adj. they use) Also, is the love returned to the author , or is it unrequited. Is the author, happy or sad? Make each point and use lots of examples from the poems themselves. You will have 200 words in no time. Start by jotting down things that are obviously different and similar and arrange your paragraphs accordingly.

Do you know of any famous love poems that are easy to interpretate?
I need to find 10 famous love poems for an English project. They have to be by an actual poet, so nothing from some random person although some people do write amazing poems. I prefer poems less than 14 lines, but any poem will do. Thanks!
Below I've linked to Emily Dickinson's "If I can stop one heart from breaking," and if you visit that site, a commentary is provided. You can probably find more poems at that site, too.
Hope it helps.

The Bungler By Amy Lowell
You glow in my heart
Like the flames of uncounted candles.
But when I go to warm my hands,
My clumsiness overturns the light,
And then I stumble
Against the tables and the chairs.

Sonnet To my Dreamy Love
Reminiscing the times when we have cared
On those blissful moments that we have shared
A million times though, we might have quarreled
Our love has stayed as always, still as real
If in your dreams, by chance, we'll also meet
It's all because I sought your love so sweet
Will your absence make me even fonder?
Of your love, while loveless I would wander?
A thousand pathways, soon will I travel
For the mystery that I must unravel
The ways to your heart I have been treading
For your caring that I have been yearning
.............Love, what I say is, we'll kiss and make up
.............Done in dreams, before the time you wake up.
Do you know any quotes or poems that involves love and fire?

Loves Flaming Fire by Louis Rams
let me walk by your side
let me feel what you try to hide.
let me see where you have been
from the beginning to the end.
let me feel your aches and pains
let me cover up your shames.
let me be your second skin
so that no harm could ever get in.
let me protect you from the storm
for it is here that i belong.
let my 'loves flaming fire'
fill your heart with desire
the desire to be loved forever more.
for there is so much that i have in store.
i will take your broken heart
and put it together part by part.
i will make it whole again
so we could be much more than friends.
you had searched your whole life through
when i was right next to you.
given the chance you will see
that i'll love you endlessly.
you must extinguish this flaming fire
before it gets any higher.
love me, as i have loved you
for my heart has always been true.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
Its eternal love for a withering beauty against all obstacles of Nature(e.g. Death, time etc.) since you believe that shs's more beautiful than Nature(e.g. summer)

What are some love poems by Anne Sexton?
I've just started reading some of Anne Sexton's poetry and considering her life, a lot of it is pretty dark.
Has she ever written any love poems? If so, can you give me a few titles?
This is one:
Anne Sexton - Killing The Love
I am the love killer,
I am murdering the music we thought so special,
that blazed between us, over and over.
I am murdering me, where I kneeled at your kiss.
I am pushing knives through the hands
that created two into one.
Our hands do not bleed at this,
they lie still in their dishonor.
I am taking the boats of our beds
and swamping them, letting them cough on the sea
and choke on it and go down into nothing.
I am stuffing your mouth with your
promises and watching
you vomit them out upon my face.
The Camp we directed?
I have gassed the campers.
Now I am alone with the dead,
flying off bridges,
hurling myself like a beer can into the wastebasket.
I am flying like a single red rose,
leaving a jet stream
and yet I feel nothing,
though I fly and hurl,
my insides are empty
and my face is as blank as a wall.
Shall I call the funeral director?
He could put our two bodies into one pink casket,
those bodies from before,
and someone might send flowers,
and someone might come to mourn
and it would be in the obits,
and people would know that something died,
is no more, speaks no more, won't even
drive a car again and all of that.
When a life is over,
the one you were living for,
where do you go?
I'll work nights.
I'll dance in the city.
I'll wear red for a burning.
I'll look at the Charles very carefully,
weraing its long legs of neon.
And the cars will go by.
The cars will go by.
And there'll be no scream
from the lady in the red dress
dancing on her own Ellis Island,
who turns in circles,
as the cars go by.
This is a very interesting one:
Angels of the Love Affair
'Angels of the love affair, do you know that other,
the dark one, that other me? '
1. ANGEL OF FIRE AND GENITALS
Angel of fire and genitals, do you know slime,
that green mama who first forced me to sing,
who put me first in the latrine, that pantomime
of brown where I was beggar and she was king?
I said, 'The devil is down that festering hole.'
Then he bit me in the buttocks and took over my soul.
Fire woman, you of the ancient flame, you
of the Bunsen burner, you of the candle,
you of the blast furnace, you of the barbecue,
you of the fierce solar energy, Mademoiselle,
take some ice, take come snow, take a month of rain
and you would gutter in the dark, cracking up your brain.
Mother of fire, let me stand at your devouring gate
as the sun dies in your arms and you loosen it's terrible weight.
2. ANGEL OF CLEAN SHEETS
Angel of clean sheets, do you know bedbugs?
Once in the madhouse they came like specks of cinnamon
as I lay in a choral cave of drugs,
as old as a dog, as quiet as a skeleton.
Little bits of dried blood. One hundred marks
upon the sheet. One hundred kisses in the dark.
White sheets smelling of soap and Clorox
have nothing to do with this night of soil,
nothing to do with barred windows and multiple locks
and all the webbing in the bed, the ultimate recoil.
I have slept in silk and in red and in black.
I have slept on sand and, on fall night, a haystack.
I have known a crib. I have known the tuck-in of a child
but inside my hair waits the night I was defiled.
Four more poems in this set of angels.
Read them all:
Best luck to you!
Anne Sexton's poetry is very dark, sometimes, but beautiful!
LIGHT BRIGHT FOREVER!
What are your favorite love songs or love poems - to answer this, type their title and their lyrics?
What are your favorite love songs or love poems - to answer this, type their title and their lyrics?
don't give me anything stupid or corny, but something heartfelt and real: those are the type of answers that i seek. and p.s. it doesn't nescessarily have to rhyme
@dinesh - loves the second poem "Lines to an India Air". luv that line "I die! I faint! I fail! " great stuff. i want more answers that are like yours. are you from india? from whereabouts?
A lot of poems, but I'll just give two of them here. Pardon me.
Written by Lord Byron, this is as real as a Love poem can get. This isn't lovey-dovey and it even applies to these days where impressions are a great part of relationships.
Oh, talk not to me of a name great in story;
The days of our youth are the days of our glory;
And the myrtle and ivy of sweet two-and-twenty
Are worth all your laurels, though ever so plenty.
What are garlands and crowns to the brow that is wrinkled?
'Tis but as a dead flower with May-dew besprinkled:
Then away with all such from the head that is hoary!
What care I for the wreaths that can only give glory?
O Fame!—if I e'er took delight in thy praises,
'Twas less for the sake of thy high-sounding phrases,
Than to see the bright eyes of the dear one discover
She thought that I was not unworthy to love her.
There chiefly I sought thee, there only I found thee;
Her glance was the best of the rays that surround thee;
When it sparkled o'er aught that was bright in my story,
I knew it was love, and I felt it was glory.
This poem is a contrast to the above, where Shelley goes into that dreamy stance of Love. But no, I don't like it just because it's inspired (probably) from a woman of my country. If the reader doesn't cringe in love while reading the last stanza, he has no taste in romantic literature for sure.
"Lines to an India Air"
I arise from dreams of thee
In the first sweet sleep of night,
When the winds are breathing low,
And the stars are shining bright.
I arise from dreams of thee,
And a spirit in my feet
Has led me -who knows how?
To thy chamber-window, Sweet!
The wandering airs they faint
On the dark, the silent stream -
The champak odours fail
Like sweet thoughts in a dream;
The nightingale's complaint,
It dies upon her heart,
As I must die on thine,
O beloved as thou art!
Oh lift me from the grass!
I die! I faint! I fail!
Let thy love in kisses rain
On my lips and eyelids pale.
My cheek is cold and white, alas!
My heart beats loud and fast;
Oh press it close to thine again,
Where it will break at last!
Do you think love poems are in fashion?
I have to do a project about love poems and I'd like very much to know your oppinion about them. Do you think that they are in fashon or antiquated? Are they a way to express true feelings or only simple words?I'd be very grateful if you'd tell me your oppinion, and, if you want, please tell me your age too. Thank you very much.
There are people who think they are too sophisticated to enjoy a love poem. That's because they've never had one written to or for them.
Or worse yet . . . they've never been in love.
Good love poems warms the soul. It reminds us of what it feels like and opens us up to the possibility of seeing love differently.
Fashion is always fleeting, always temporary.
Love never cares about fashion is currently dictating.
What are some love poems that don't really sound like love poems?
For example, poems that are about love but they don't flat out scream it until they are analyzed further.
Since there’s no help, come let us kiss and part.
Nay, I have done; you get no more of me,
And I am glad, yea glad with all my heart,
That thus so cleanly I myself can free;
Shake hands for ever, cancel all our vows,
And when we meet at any time again,
Be it not seen in either of our brows
That we one jot of former love retain.
Now at the last gasp of Love’s latest breath,
When, his pulse failing, Passion speechless lies,
When Faith is kneeling by his bed of death,
And Innocence is closing up his eyes,
Now if thou wouldst, when all have given him over,
From death to life thou might’st him yet recover.
By Michael Drayton…..from “Idea”.

Pablo Neruda, a Chilean poet who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971, has written numerous poems on the theme of love, whose tonal scope ranged from tender to passionate.
Here is a link to a Google scan of a few excerpts from his book "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair." It's an English translation from the original Spanish.
If you do an online search on "Pablo Neruda love poems," you'll find plenty more examples.
If you'd like some love poems from a woman's perspective, try American poet Adrienne Rich's sonnet sequence "21 Love Poems." She is the recipient of numerous prestigious literary honors, including the National Book Award.
Her poems in this sequence are infused with a more modern feminist sensibility, so they are not as romanticized as as "traditional" love poems, but they are arguably more psychologically complex.
How to tell this guy to stop making me love poems?
I have mild RAD, and when doneone compliments me, I feel weird and kinda wanna hide, so when he writes me love poems, I just want to run off. How do I tell him nicely to stop?
And how do I ask him if he's Plagiarised the poems? They sound way too old fashioned and mature to be his own.
We're both turning 14 (I'm a bit older) and I only like him as a friend.
awwwwwwwwww that is so sweet! but tell him to stop he will understand.
Does anyone know some love poems in Chinese?
I need a love poem WRITTEN in Chinese, please. Just saying something simple, but not too old.
I've been searching Chinese love poems but they are already written in English, and I really don't want to translate it into Chinese because it'll sound false.
Thank you so much for your help!
If love could be explained, vows could be changed.
If the we could reschedule our meeting
Than, my life would be easier.
If one day, I could finally forget you.
However, this is not a random legendary story. It's not a play that is going to be performed tomorrow.
I can't find the original script and erase you.
If you fall in love with a person when you were young.
Please, please treat him/her kindly.
No matter how short or how long you've met.
If you can always treat each other kindly, than, each moment is flawless beauty.
If you have to saparate, you should say goodbye well.
And you should appreciate he/she gave you a memory.
When you grow up, you will suddenly find out that the youth without resentment is the youth without regret.
It's like the full moon above the hills.
If someone reads chinese poems as much as i do, you will find out that chinese poems are abstract and weird most of the time. just saying.
Can someone give me love poems with allegory?
Can someone please help me find two examples of love poems with allegory please. I have searched for hours upon hours and i can't seem to find even one.
This isn't typically romantic, but it dances along those lines:
"Black Butterfly" by Triin Kann
Sitting lonely in a white padded room
The silence is too loud and too cruel
I'm cold, and alone, but they don't care
On the road they left me somewhere
But I ended up sitting here barefoot
With an evil smile and a wicked look
I can hear her coming through the air
Just last night we played truth or dare
But she didn't really talk that much
And she never lets me gently touch
Her dark little broken velvet wings
When she comes, the angels sing
She's my only friend through the days
But every evening she flies away
She brings darkness to this room
Sometimes she whisper's that I'm doomed
She makes me think I'm losing my mind
Searching for peace I know I can't find
Her wings are broken, she wants to break mine
Without her here I feel perfectly fine
I feel her presence, I know she's already here
She plays on the strings of my mind and fears
She's circling around me, and looking at me
She knows exactly what I think or feel
Room's filled with loud silence and bright darkness
She knows she's making me become a real mess
She fills my mind with doubt and fear
And whispers insanity in both of my ears
Once I thought butterflies are sweet and free
But this one here is bad, and meant to torture me
I hide my scars, my cuts and bruises
In this game there's no room for losers
I know I could just catch and kill her
But then a part of me would start to hurt
Sure I'm sober, and I know I'm still sane
I'd like to watch her burn with a bright flame
I was told I have to walk my road alone
But for some reason she always comes along
On her broken wings at night she flies away
But for now my 'friend' black butterfly will stay
I know in my heart that one day I will grow strong
Then she can't hurt me like she's done for so long
On that day I will hear my black butterfly cry
And then watch when she slowly dies
Can anyone name any Shakespeare sonnets which are not love poems?
More specifically, any about children? I don't know if they exist or not, and if they don't, any which are especially beautiful, and not the most well know? I'm making a Christmas present for my mum, of drawings and pictures among other things, and she loves poetry so I thought I'd include some. The pictures are mainly of her children, so poems fitting with that theme would be great. If any other great poems spring to mind, I'd love any suggestions. Thank you. x

Examples of love poems that reference Greek mythology?
I have an English essay comparing and contrasting two love poems, and I have to admit, I'm not that familiar with love poetry in general.
I know that it's quite common for love poems to reference Ancient Greek mythology, or Ancient Greek deities, but I can't think of any specific examples.
Could anyone give me a few examples of love poems that contain references to Greek mythology? They can be from around the fourteenth century to the present day, and just a list of titles will do.
Thanks in advance.
Um, @A? Rape and love are not the same thing. Kind of the opposite, actually.

'Dawn of Beauty' - Dane Lewer
From the shadow.
A long reach,
Over the tall wall.
Yet so close
Long lonely soul.
on my ears,
upon my cheek,
fills my nose,
against my skin...
and beauty my heart cannot believe.
Does anyone know any good poems or quotes about being in love with a foreigner?
long or short, doesn't matter. found lots of love poems but none about being in love with a foreigner.
Do you know any love poems or death poems?
Any death poems, or missing someone special to you.
Or also any love poems, that are touching.
No songs, no quotes, just poems.
Preferably no original ones.
The Voice, by Thomas Hardy. An ellergy to the death of his first wife Emma Gifford is hauntingly metaphysical.

너 만 보인다는말
내눈엔 많은 사람들이 보여
그 치만, 그 많은 사람들 중에서
Neo man boindaneunmal
Nan... geojitmalirago saenggakhae
Naenunen manheun saramdeuli boyeo
Geu chiman, geu manheun saramdeul jungeseo
In my eyes...
The saying that you're the only one I see
That, I believe, is a lie
In my eyes, I see many people
But, amidst this group of people,
I only search for you

Blessing For A Marriage
James Dillet Freeman
May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring,
and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.
May you always need one another -
not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness.
A mountain needs a valley to be complete;
the valley does not make the mountain less, but more;
and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it.
So let it be with you and you.
May you need one another, but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one another.
May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another.
May you succeed in all important ways with one another, and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say, "I love you!" and take no notice of small faults.
If you have quarrels that push you apart,
may both of you hope to have good sense enough to take the first step back.
May you enter into the mystery which is the awareness of one another's presence -
no more physical than spiritual, warm and near when you are side by side,
and warm and near when you are in separate rooms or even distant cities.
May you have happiness, and may you find it making one another happy.
May you have love, and may you find it loving one another!
From "The Prophet"
by Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931)
"Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you with hold the "aye." And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed."
From "Gift From The Sea"
by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (b.1906)
"When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.
The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides."
From "A Natural History Of Love"
by Diane Ackerman
"Love. What a small word we use for an idea so immense and powerful. It has altered the flow of history, calmed monsters, kindled works of art, cheered the forlorn, turned tough guys to mush, consoled the enslaved, driven strong women mad, glorified the humble, fueled national scandals, bankrupted robber barons, and made mincemeat of kings. How can love's spaciousness be conveyed in the narrow confines of one syllable? Love is an ancient delirium, a desire older than civilization, with taproots spreading into deep and mysterious days. The heart is a living museum. In each of its galleries, no matter how narrow or dimly lit, preserved forever like wondrous diatoms, are our moments of loving, and being loved."
From "The Hymn Of The Universe"
by Teilhard De Chardi

She is as in a field a silken tent
At midday when the sunny summer breeze
Has dried the dew and all its ropes relent,
So that in guys it gently sways at ease,
And it's supporting central cedar pole,
That is its pinnacle to heavenward
And signifies the sureness of the soul,
Seems to owe naught to any single cord,
by Robert Frost

Does anyone know any good love poems?
I'm in love and am too intellectually numbed to express my own feelings using my own words, so I naturally refer to the poets. However, it is really hard to find poems that are good- especially love poems. Can anyone please copy and paste a poem that they find to be moving. I would love to check it out and read it. Thanks!
To his Coy Mistress
by Andrew Marvell
Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges' side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.
But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.
Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

Why does this man keeps sending me love poems he wrote through text?
I don't think the poems are for me, because we just met, and he has been talking about the girl he likes. whenever he sends me love poems after love poems, he just ends it with, "good evening".
what does he want me to say, "it's a good poem", or "you're a good poet"?
I just want to know what he wants to hear from me.
Do you like my poem?
I am the icecream man
running over fat kids in my van
all I want to is sell icecream
but all they do is run away and scream
I need to find the perfect love poem where can I find some lovable love poems ?
Im trying to express my love for the love of my life more than just telling him simply by words from mouth but more so by action expressing how I feel for him in a more exciting way, that's a poem! Im looking for something that says I love you so much, and cant live without you any help?
u know i think you should try to write one in your own words...because no poem from another person will completely speak about your feelings...dont worry about how simple your poem would end up being...dont worry about the mistakes either...because the effort is all that counts and it would be really sweet of you to write a poem for him

UPON JULIA'S CLOTHES.
by Robert Herrick
WHENAS in silks my Julia goes,
Then, then, methinks, how sweetly flows
That liquefaction of her clothes.
Next, when I cast mine eyes and see
That brave vibration each way free ;
O how that glittering taketh me !
Many popular songs are wonderful lyric poems: "Crazy on You" by Heart, "Call Me," by Blondie, "Do You Want to Touch" by Joan Jett, "Let's Get Physical," by Olivia Newton John,
"I Saw Her Standing There," by the Beatles, and then there are the jazz standards like "Fever" and "Let's Fall In Love" by
And one of my own:
Gawaine Caldwater Ross
Through the rays of holy light
I ambled in the forest green,
Filtering through the morning mist
The sound of distant water falling.
Deer leapt off across the ferns,
Cedar trees some ten feet thick
Lay across steep wet ravines.
I was treading on the sacred ground
Of Eartha and her swelling mounds:
Oh She was fully sexed that day.
In my mind I walked with Embla
The very first woman, born of an elm,
And I was Ask, the mighty ash
Thick and tall and proud and strong.
We stepped across the Rainbow Bridge
And found a soft place in the grass
For rooting in the summer sun.
She was human, and yet more,
Someone to love, and to adore.
No open space beneath a dome
Of church or mosque or synagogue
Can ever claim to be as pure
As the mountain sky so high and blue
We inhaled as we drifted through
The heartscape of our lives entwining.
What pre 1914 love poems do you recommend?
I have to write a piece of coursework comparing a pre1914 poem with another piece of poetry, i'd like to do a love poem but i cant find any that i really like, i'd like one preferably where the language isn't so old i don't have to spend 5 minutes deciphering one line and one that isn't shakespeare, i've looked quite hard but don't seem to be able to find anything i particularly like, it has to be an British writer.
